at Rhiw Syr Dafydd Primary School 2019 - 2020

The number on roll at Rhiw Syr Dafydd Primary School in September 2019 was 605 including 60 in the Nursery.

The percentage of pupils on roll eligible for free school meals is 7.3%, representing a slight decrease on the previous year.

The total amount of grant funding available to school this year is £72,800 including £8000 for Early Years.

The expenditure planned each year is laid out in the School Development Plan which is approved by the local consortium; South East Wales Education Achievement Service. (EAS)

The school undertakes the following activities in order to support pupils facing the challenges of poverty and deprivation: -

  1. Employing a member of staff on a full time basis to deliver tailored intervention programmes for pupils entitled to free school meals.  This includes Motional support and is always targeted at developing literacy or numeracy skills.
  2. Employing a part time family liaison officer who is available to support vulnerable families and their children.  The main focus of the role is developing attendance at school.
  3. Delivering a ‘Butties & Blocks’ club on a monthly basis which is aimed at developing interaction between parents and pupils.  The club provides an opportunity for developing links between the school and the local community
  4. Providing financial assistance for residential visits for those pupils entitled to free school meals.

The school’s PDG and EIG Plans are regularly scrutinised by the Governing Body, supported by advice from the EAS and monitored by the Local Authority, Caerphilly County Borough Council.
